Mr. Malawi Bodybuilding champion Henry Master and his runner-up Yasin Ichocho Suwedi have cast their steamy rivalry aside to jointly raise the profile of the sport in the country.
The two have agreed to move around the country’s gyms to encourage more people to join the sport so that it can be competitive and popular countrywide. The agreement was made two weeks ago at Master’s wedding in Lilongwe where Ichocho was the best man.

“We realised that the sport lacks more serious athletes that can ably compete for the title during our events. Therefore, we have agreed to move around the country gyms to entice more people into the sport,” Master, who is now married to Agnes Fungulani, said.
According to Ichocho, their joint effort will not only help to raise the status of bodybuilding in Malawi, but also woo more sponsors into their favourite discipline.

“At present, we only have ETG Agro Tractors as the only serious corporate sponsors, but if the sport gets more athletes, more companies will as well fall in love with the sport. As you know, in any sport, numbers matter most,” Ichocho said.
Currently, the two bodybuilders have started their preparations for this year’s Mr. Malawi Championships slated for Robin’s Park in October.
Master has been Mr. Malawi Bodybuilding champion three times in a row while Ichocho came second best on his first appearance in the contest last year. n
